The 1970s - Artists born in and art created in one fantastic decade

Colley Ison Gallery - Colmore Row, Birmingham
3rd May 2023 - 26th August 2023
The 1970s are famous for many colourful ideas in the world art and music, but it was also an era of economic struggle, cultural change and technological innovation.

The Minimalist art movement emerged in New York as a group of younger artists began to question the overly expressive works of Abstract Expressionist artists.
Minimalist art instead focused on anonymity, calling attention to the materiality of works.

It is into this important decade of history that 4 of the artists Colley Ison Gallery represent were born.
Reuben Colley, Rick Garland, Roxana Halls and Danny Howes all have their own distinct creative style, but all are influenced by growing up in this amazing decade.

This exhibition brings together these four artists with collections of new and archived works, showing alongside important historic works such as Andy Warhol's 'Mick Jagger' silkscreen - created in 1975.

The exhibition runs from May to July 2023 with focuses on each individual artist in the lower gallery that will change throughout the run of the show.
